The Chess Express organizes regular children's tournaments in Guelph.
Each month there is a tournament at the Guelph
University - at
University Center.
These tournaments are open to any youths from Kindergarten to Grade 12
and offer kids a chance to practice and hone their chess skills as their
ability develops.
Tournaments are organized to place kids with others that are of similar
ability, giving all children a chance to compete and be successful.
Tournaments also have door prizes and consolation prizes so that even
if they are not as successful at the chess board, they can still have a
chance to win something to take home.
Key Benefits
- Tournaments are excellent ways to practice developing skills as they are
learned. This offers reinforcements to good skills while discourages bad
habits.
- The Chess Express Tournaments are rated with a National Organization - The
Chess 'n Math organization - and so offer a good an valid method of
measuring a child's development and increasing chess skills.
- Chess Tournaments also offer a good opportunity for children to socialize
with other like-minded children that they might not otherwise have the
opportunity to meet.
